This week, our favourite Instagrammer is @allthatisshe. Dominique's beautiful feed is a complete joy to explore. We love the muted colours, the simple family moments with her 2 daughters and the undeniable style that she has, even with her 36 piece capsule wardrobe. There's even a blog all about her capsule wardrobe, definitely one to read!
We also loved the images of our blue striped tote bag when Dominique recently ran a giveaway with us. It's great to see the different styling of our products from the creative world of Instagram and she really nailed it! It was a pleasure to chat with Dominique for our feature and enjoy this lovely read, with a motto that will put a smile on your face!
Describe your style in 5 words
Living with a capsule wardrobe means that my wardrobe always needs to flow, giving me an ample amount of outfit choices from only a small amount of clothing. So, I suppose you could say my style is minimal (seen as though I only have 33 items in my wardrobe, at present), classic, simplistic, effortless and a style that makes running around after two kids, that little bit more manageable.
What are the tools you use to create your feed?
My iPhone, natural light and VSCO. The majority of my photos are taken with my iPhone (with the odd few using my DSLR) and they all tend to be in natural light; however, for the times where I’ve blinked and the sun has disappeared, I do have a daylight lamp which can save the day. Once my photo is in my gallery, I add it to VSCO, have a play around with the filters (the A-range gets a lot of use), then I fine tune the details such as, saturation, fade, sharpness, etc. Voila! My photo is Instagram ready.
Who or what inspires you?
Can I be really corny here and say, the world around me? Before I started the Insta-game, I never really took any notice of the smaller details in everyday life - the beam of sunlight on your bed, that afternoon cup of tea, the different textures in clothing. These days, my eyes are wide-open, constantly on the hunt for my next snap and by doing so, I’m seeing all sorts of wonderful things that previously would have passed me by. If, however, I’m having a bit of a slump, Pinterest and browsing my favourite Instagram accounts/hashtags are a great way to get my creative juices flowing again.
If you had an extra hour in the day what would you do?
Sleep. I have a toddler who still sneaks into my bed every night and who then tries, with all of her might, to push me out of it. Most nights I'm clinging to my bed sheets, desperately hanging onto the small amount of space I have left. An extra hour of sleep would be wonderful.
What is your personal motto?
“If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it.
A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”
Not a motto as such, more of a quote (The Twits by Roald Dahl), but I’ve loved these words from being a kid. And it’s so true. If you’re nice, you’ll be o.k.
Who else should we follow on Instagram? Who’s your top three?
Eeeek! There're so many incredible accounts. I’m going to say @me_and_orla, no one does slow living quite like Sara; @helena.moore, her use of natural light will take your breath away and @thisisjules, if you want to look at all the pretty things in life, follow her.
Thank you so much Dominique! Now make sure you all go and follow @allthatisshe for wonderful moments and beautiful photography everyday!
