This week our favourite instagrammer is @theordinarylovely! Rachel shoots lovely, bright photos of everyday life from homely interiors to exciting adventures with her 2 little boys. She also has a lovely blog, which is a great read, too!
We were drawn to Rachel's gallery as we love being outdoors here at P&A, especially on the beach or exploring woodland areas! Rachel captures these moments beautifully! Read our chat with her below to find out about her inspirations and who's feed she finds "swoonworthy"!
Describe your style in five words
My personal style? This is a tricky one as I'm forever changing my mind and it's vastly different on the days I spend with my two little boys compared to when I'm out alone. But, in five words, I'd sum it up as classic, casual, navy, stripes, and a-splash-of-colour. Photography-wise, I'd say my style is for light, bright, clear, colourful, outdoors images (and a few interiors shots, too).
What are the tools you use to create your feed?
My feed is made up of 70 percent iPhone photos and 30 percent digital camera (I use a Sony a5100 and love it for how compact and speedy it is). I rarely use a filter on my images but I've just started experimenting with the new A Color Story app and it has a few variations which are more my style - I prefer my images light and bright as opposed to moody-looking.
Who or what inspires you?
I find inspiration anywhere and everywhere. I take a lot of photos outside and we're lucky to live in-between the sea and the countryside so I get the best of both worlds. It's hard to take bad images when you're confronted with such beauty. I also read a lot of books and magazines and follow so many talented people on Instagram. It makes me want to do better.
If you had an extra hour in the day what would you do?
Right now? I'd say sleep because I have a five year old and three year old who don't take sleep very seriously. But in truth, I'd probably enjoy a hot cup of tea and then head out for a walk with my camera. It's the simple things you miss most when you become a parent ... it's rare that you find yourself alone.
What is your personal motto?
Celebrate the small things. It could be savouring the perfect cup of coffee, silently cheering at finding a great hiding place in a particularly competitive game of hide and seek, filling your house with jar upon jar of fresh flowers, finding the old, battered school desk of your dreams on eBay for a snip, or marvelling at the most beautiful of sunsets ... things that are right in front of you, or so ordinary that you often take them for granted. Celebrate those things because they happen every single day and can bring so much joy to your life.
Who else should we follow on instagram? Who's your top three?
Just three? Oh, that's hard. Well, top of my list is @capturebylucy because her feed is a joy. Colour, florals and the most beautiful home and family. And Lucy is equally lovely in person, too. And then there's Emma from @littlewoodlife whose feed is totally swoonworthy. It's country living at its loveliest. I wish she lived closer so I could pop over for a cup of tea and a snoop around her home. And, lastly, I'd send you over to look at Katy's feed, @aptapothecary because I adore her crafts. I pin nearly every post of hers. She has such wonderful but achievable ideas.
Thank you so much Rachel! Head over to instagram and follow @theordinarylovely!
