Plum & Ashby

Our Favourite Instagrammers
Freya Dowson

This week our favourite Instagrammer is Freya Dowson, a photographer capturing intriguing stories and natural beauty all around the world. And the occasional shot of our handmade Plum & Ashby ceramic mug!

Her feed is full of adventure! From all her journeys across the world to shots of her home life in East London with her gorgeous dog, Molly, planning the next trip. There are some really inspirational photos on there that make you just want to pack your bag and go! Especially Freya's photos of open maps, travel books and notebooks, those ones are enough to encourage you to book a flight!

For more of Freya's photography, go to her website or head over to Nishaantishu, her travel blog, to explore the countries that are on your list!

Describe your style in 5 words

Such a difficult question! But probably really good for me to think about. In just five words my style could be described as: warm, personal, relatable, bold, freeing.

What are the tools you use to create your feed?

My feed is a combination of iPhone and my DSLR, I always edit my photos in a similar style for instagram to make my feed flow nicely, and I like to edit in a few apps depending on the photo: snapseed, a color story, and vsco. Sometimes I'll finish off the edit in instagram if I feel like the photo needs it.

Who or what inspires you?

Instagram is such a great source of inspiration that there are countless people on there who inspire me. Some for the way they tell their story, some for their photography style, others for their editing style. I love travel photos best of all, when they're a combination of documentary and editorial, a candid moment with people of another culture in a city I've yet to visit - those sorts of images always inspire me to work on my style.

If you had an extra hour in the day what would you do?

More yoga. The more I travel and work, the more important for me it is becoming to incorporate yoga into my life. It settles me and brings me back down to earth, which is probably a good thing for all creatives. But it always seems to be the first thing bumped off my list when I've got a ton of work on.

What is your personal motto?

I'm not sure I have one, but I'm always encouraging myself to think positive, have more faith in my work and believe that good things are coming my way. I've really been noticing lately that the more positive I am and the more I put my intentions out there, the more good comes my way. It's more of a state of mind I try to keep myself in, rather than I phrase I try to remind myself of.

Who else should we follow on instagram? Who's your top three?

Only three!? This is hard. Lately I have really been enjoying following @easternsuns, @siobhanwatts and @melissafindley
